Ethical Guidelines and Confidentiality

I maintain confidentiality in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I am a registered member of the BACP. I receive regular supervision in line with the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure I offer the best possible service to you. My supervisor is bound by the same code of ethics and confidentiality as I am. I adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018:

Exceptions to Confidentiality

I may share any information with the relevant authorities including the following:

  • If you threaten harm to yourself or to another person.

  • If a person is at risk of abuse or harm.

  • If the courts instruct me to give information by court order.

  • If you share information about a proposed act of terrorism or other illegal act;

I will always discuss with you if any of the above exceptions to confidentiality arise and explain the reasoning behind breaching confidentiality in these rare instances, unless doing so would present further risk.
